Our self catering holiday cottage enjoys a quiet location on the edge of NIDDERDALE – rightly proud of its place within the Yorkshire Dales.  It truly deserves its status as an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”, with its stunning moorland scenery and tapestry of lush green meadows. Offering fantastic walking and cycling opportunities, combined with cosy inns and quaint tea shops. Here you can visit BRIMHAM ROCKS, a National Trust site of heather moorland and dramatic rock formations, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Nearby Holly Beck Stables is the quintessential spa town of HARROGATE, which boasts a stunning mix of historical architecture, green open spaces and vibrant shops and eateries. Wander across the 200 acre grass parkland of the Stray. Enjoy Bettys Café Tea Rooms, a local institution, with the windows enticingly filled with breads, cakes and scones make the prospect of lunch or afternoon tea irresistible. Harrogate’s stylish shopping area has a fine selection of independent retailers; browse the antique shops and fashion boutiques. The splendidly restored Royal Baths, its Moorish-style design dates back to the 1890s; is well worth a visit to enjoy a Turkish Bath and spa treatments. Explore the Valley gardens or RHS Harlow Carr Gardens, the Pump Room museum or one of the town’s many art galleries. Then in the evening you may choose a visit to the theatre or drop in on one of the many fantastic restaurants or bars.

One of England’s smallest cities, RIPON is known for its historic buildings and beautiful Cathedral as well as traditional customs such as “setting the watch”. This thousand year old ceremony takes place nightly at 9:00 p.m. with the blowing of the horn in Ripon Market Place. Boats can be hired for a lazy afternoon on the river at KNARESBOROUGH. Old Mother Shipton’s wishing well turning hats to stone is on the Riverside walk there.  Just two miles from RIPLEY and RIPLEY CASTLE (still bearing the bullet marks of Cromwell’s army) where the Ingilby family have lived for the past 670 years. Ripley has a range of shops including a post office, art gallery, café,  butchers, hotel and bar, provisions shop and famous ice cream shop.

Holly Beck Stables is only a few miles from the WORLD HERITAGE SITE National Trust FOUNTAINS ABBEY, the STUDLEY ROYAL water gardens and the deer park –  .  A little further afield is Rievaulx Abbey, and the Rievaulx Terraces are set in the North Yorkshire National Park. The ancient city of YORK with its wonderful Minister, Medieval streets, walls and river cruises would make a brilliant day out. NEWBY HALL, its famous house and gardens; And do not miss HAREWOOD HOUSE‘s treasures and stunning CASTLE HOWARD where ‘Brideshead Revisited’ was filmed.
